Strategically located on a glorious stretch of the Tanzanian coast, with its own landing strip for light aircraft, Amani Beach Hotel is a centre of activity for flying safaris to the Selous Game Reserve and southern game parks of Tanzania, as well as Zanzibar and Mafia Islands. It's located some 30kms south of Dar es Salaam on several acres of tropical parkland overlooking the beach and ocean. The location is excellent, and makes what would otherwise be a comfortable but fairly standard four-star beach hotel into one of the best options on Tanzania's mainland coast.
The facilities at Amani are those of a resort rather than a small boutique hotel - there's a large swimming pool, games room, and even a tennis court.
NB. Amani Beach Hotel has changed ownership and its name. It is now known as Protea Hotel Amani Beach.
Accommodation
Amani is designed in the Afro-Arabian style typical of the Swahili Coast (i.e. open air thatched bandas and carved wooden furnishings). All ten guest cottages have ocean views, and are surrounded by well-maintained gardens.
Each air-conditioned cottage has its own verandah with hammock. The spacious bedrooms are furnished with local Swahili furniture and large Zanzibari beds, and lead into huge en-suite bathrooms with twin basins, walk-in showers and bathtubs.
Dining
The Amani restaurant serves breakfast and dinner. There is a pool bar and restaurant serving lunch, snacks and drinks. The food is good, if typical of a hotel of this category. Breakfast is a buffet, dinner a la carte.
