Bazaruto Island Lodge is a comfortable 4-star retreat, ideally situated for those wishing to explore the Bazaruto Archipelago. It's one of the oldest resorts in the area, and offers high-end accommodation in forty airy chalets. Other, more recently-opened lodges in the archipelago offer an altogether more stylish and exclusive experience, but Bazaruto is an excellent mid-range option - the rates are modest and the service reliable.
The Bazaruto archipelago sustains a vast array of wildlife within its several ecosystems, which range from beautiful beaches and towering sand dunes on the fringes of the islands to thick woodland in the interiors. Bazaruto hosts some of the most impressive marine life in Africa, including dolphin, whale and marine turtle, as well as a rich variety of birdlife. The diving, it goes without saying, is superb.
Accommodation
Bazaruto offers 40 thatched chalets: 28 superiors scattered along the beach in front of the hotel and 12 standard rooms located in the gardens (without sea view). Chalets range from standard to superior and honeymoon. There are also 2 family chalets with interconnecting rooms. All are en-suite with indoor bathrooms with stone bathtubs and outdoor showers, and come equipped with AC and ceiling fans, tea/coffee facilities and mini bars.
Dining
Dinner is announced every night in the local fashion, with the beating of African drums! The menu emphasises local seafood, but also manages to include a plenty of vegetarian options.
