Bluebay Beach Resort & Spa is a comfortable beach hotel situated in Kiwengwa, on the eastern coast of Zanzibar. One of the best-located hotels on the Eastern Coast, it occupies a fine stretch of beach in an uncrowded spot.
Bluebay is one of our favourite 4-star hotels on Zanzibar. It's not too large, has a great location, and is only a short drive from Stone Town (30 mins). The facilities are excellent, and the rooms generously-sized and furnished. It doesn't offer the same level of exclusivty as many of Zanzibar's more stylish boutique resorts and private island lodges, but as far as mid-range resorts go it's a very good alternative to the busier resorts on the western coast.
Accommodation
There are 112 rooms at Bluebay (two rooms to each chalet), each with a spacious bedroom, separate dressing area, en-suite bathroom, and verandah. Most, but not all of the chalets have a view of the ocean. Inside they are attractively furnished with Swahili-style furniture, including carved four-poster beds, and equipped with all the expected modern amenities (air-con, ceiling fans, telephone, satellite TV, hair dryer).
Dining
There's an informal bar and restaurant on the beach, serving fresh seafood, pizzas prepared in a wood-fired oven, as well as lighter fare.
