Busanga Bush Camp is located in the Busanga Plains, a wildlife paradise of over 750 square kms in the far north of Kafue National Park. Wild, remote and totally unfenced, the Busanga Plains are frequented by a rich variety of wildlife, including huge herds of zebra and wildebeest, many hundreds of roan, lechwe and sable, and healthy populations of cheetah and lion. The rare wild dog is also found here, though in limited numbers. The birdlife is rich and varied, including endemics such as wattled crane and yellow longclaw.
Rather than a luxury camp, Busanga is a traditional bush camp whose stated aim is to cater to the bush safari enthusiast. Those travellers who like their safaris to be as wild as possible will appreciate Busanga's location in a rare wilderness region that is almost totally untouched by development and human activity, outside of the select few safari camps licensed to operate here. Hidden away beneath sycamore fig trees on an island in the remote north of the Busanga floodplains, Busanga Bush Camp is small, intimate and highly exclusive, with room for only 8 guests. It's operated by Wilderness Safaris.
Busanga Camp is open between June and October. It closes during the wet season.
Accommodation
There are just four chalets at Busanga Bush Camp. Built of canvas and reed thatch, the rooms are decidedly rustic, and feature fairly simple furnishings. Busanga is not nearly as luxurious as some of the other camps run by Wilderness Safaris, but it's comfortable and very well presented. All of the chalets have hot and cold running water in the bathrooms and outdoor showers (no bathtubs).
All of the rooms at Busanga have an exceptional view of the Busanga floodplains from their private verandahs.
Dining
There is an indoor tented dining area and bar as well as an outdoor boma under the shade of enormous trees. The camp offers a fully stocked bar with a good selection of South African wines. All local drinks are included at Busanga.
