Originally opened in 1939, Cathedral Peak is among the oldest and most impressive resorts in the Drakensberg, boasting a wealth of attractions, including a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, spa, bowling green, and three swimming pools. Its main asset, however, is simply its marvellous location, below the towering peaks of the Drakensberg Mountains.
Cathedral Peak is very much a romantic mountain getaway, popular with newlyweds and honeymooners. There's even a quaint stone chapel on the site, where regular wedding receptions are held!
Cathedral Peak Hotel is large, with 96 rooms and suites, and some will find its sheer scale a little overbearing - it's a remote mountain retreat, but not a discreet one. However, for those who don't mind - or prefer - the anonymity of a large resort, it offers fabulous facilities and an unbeatable location.
Accommodation
Cathedral Peak's 96 rooms are spacious and generously furnished. Amenities include winter heaters, television, and tea/coffee facilities. The en-suite bathrooms feature both bath and shower.
There is a presidential suite and a number of honeymoon suites. These are larger and generally enjoy better views than the standard rooms, but the amenities are comparable.
