Chief's Camp is one of the most luxurious camps in the Okavango Delta. It boasts a superb location in the very heart of Moremi Game Reserve, on Chief's Island, part of the Mombo Concession. Highly exclusive, this region of the reserve sees few visitors, and is home to a spectacular array of wildlife, including wild dog, lion, cheetah and leopard, as well as the only white rhino to be found in Botswana (they are extremely rare, so don't expect guaranteed sightings!)
Due to its location, you needn't even leave Chief's Camp to enjoy excellent game-viewing. The design of the lodge also helps. Built on raised decking and set on two levels, the lower of which houses a swimming pool, the lodge offers great views of the surrounding bush from several high vantage points.
The game-viewing is generally exceptional, though do note that you are restricted to game drives and, during the flood season, mokoro excursions. Walking safaris are not allowed within the National Park.
Accommodation
There are twelve tented rooms at Chief's Camp, all raised on wooden platforms and overlooking the floodplains (the pathways run behind the tents, ensuring an undisturbed view from the front). The rooms are large and spacious. Padded canvas walls gives them the feel of traditional bush tents, but they're sturdy, permanent structures, with solid wooden frames and wood and mesh doors. Inside they are beautifully furnished, with four-poster beds and dark mahogany furniture, including comfortable armchairs, coffee table and a writing desk. The en-suite bathrooms have an indoor and outdoor showers (no tubs) and a separate dressing area.
Dining
Meals at Chief's Camp are provided during and between excursions. Wonderful candlelit dinners served in the top level dining area are a highlight.
