Chitwa Chitwa is a small, family-owned and managed safari lodge. It boasts a great setting on the shores of one of the largest lakes in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, ensuring excellent game-viewing from the camp in both dry and wet seasons.
The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is home to a number of extravagant camps, and of these, Chitwa Chitwa, while not cheap, is among the more reasonably priced. It has one of the best locations in the reserve - not surprisingly, for it's also one of the oldest lodges in the area, having previously been a private home - and is directly managed by its owners.
Chitwa Chitwa, in keeping with most of the lodges within the Sabi Sand Reserve, is very much a resort, which assumes guests will come expecting more than just quality game-viewing. There's a spa, swimming pool, and even a small gym. Accommodation is in stylish suites, with plush furnishings, fireplaces, and luxury bathrooms. You shouldn't come to Chitwa Chitwa, or indeed Sabi Sand, expecting to find a traditional bush camp.
Accommodation
There are seven suites at Chitwa Chitwa, one of which is a family unit with inter-connecting bedrooms. The suites are very generously sized, and beautifully furnished with large four-poster beds, heavy rugs and fireplaces for the cold winter evenings. En-suite bathrooms feature both outdoor and indoor showers and bathtubs. Each suite has its own private viewing deck overlooking the lake.
There is also a large private villa, Chitwa House, with two bedrooms, a lounge and plunge pool. It is set apart from the main suites and is suitable for families and small groups wanting a more private experience.
Dining
Breakfast and lunch are usually served under thatch in an open-air lapa which overlooks the lake. Dinners are typically served in the dining room or, on clear evenings, around an open fire in the boma.
There's a cosy lounge and bar kept well-stocked by an underground wine cellar.
