The Setswana word 'chilwero' roughly translates into English as 'elevated view'. It's a fitting name for Chobe Chilwero, which boasts a tremendous location on a high hill overlooking the Chobe River and its floodplains, the view extending as far as Namibia.
As well as a wonderful view, Chobe Chilwero's remote hilltop location allows for a level of privacy that isn't always available in the busier areas of Chobe.
Chobe Chilwero is very much a safari lodge, and not a traditional bush camp. Accommodation is in stone and thatch bungalows, while the facilities include pool, spa, and a central complex housing lounge, bar, restaurant and an internet centre. Chobe Chilwero puts a premium on comfort, and is ideal for those wishing to enjoy a leisurely safari, if not exactly a back-to-nature wild bush experience!
Accommodation
Chobe Chilwero offers 15 stone bungalows: nine twins and six kings. The cottages are air-conditioned, spacious and generously furnished. Bathrooms feature both bathtub and indoor and outdoor showers. There is a small private garden with a hammock at the back of each bungalow.
Dining
Meals are usually served outdoors on the lawn to take advantage of the view, though there is an indoor dining area. The meals are generous: full-English breakfasts, three-course lunches and varied dinner menus accompanied by a good selection of wines.
