Chobe Elephant Camp is set in a quiet location, remotely situated in the Chobe Forest Reserve on the less-frequented western perimeter of Chobe National Park, where it perches on a high rocky ridge overlooking the Chobe River. From this isolated position, Chobe Elephant Camp offers guided game drives and river boat safaris in the National Park (access is via the western Ngoma Gate, approx. 10 minutes’ drive from the camp).
Chobe Elephant Camp is a comfortable safari camp but without some of the luxury trappings that are a feature of many Botswanan safari camps – instead, the emphasis is very much on the game-viewing experience. Chobe Elephant Camp is not without character, however. The main communal area, housing a cosy lounge/bar and spacious open-air dining area, has an old safari ranch vibe, with its thick ceiling rafters and corrugated iron roofing. It’s a lovely spot to relax between game drives, as is the small pool deck.
Those wanting to escape the crowds will find the small, isolated Chobe Elephant Camp to be a great choice. The guiding is excellent and the rates very reasonable. It's a good alternative to many of Chobe's other safari camps, which are largely situated on the busy north-eastern corner of the park, closer to Kasane and the Sedudu Gate.
Chobe Elephant Camp is open year-round.
