El Silencio stands out above all for its fabulous location. Situated in the forested outskirts of Juan Castro Blanco National Park, the lodge is also within easy reach of Poas Volcano and not much more than 60 minutes’ drive from San Jose, making it easy to fit into a typical tour of Costa Rica. Access to the lodge is via a long and winding road, with fabulous scenery en route.
The suites and villas at El Silencio are exquisite and come with all the expected comforts, not to mention stunning views. Each room has a private outdoor hot tub where you can enjoy a refreshing soak at the end of a busy day. El Silencio also offers a wellness spa providing a wide range of treatments, while the yoga deck, positioned overlooking the forest, is the perfect spot for tranquil exercise.
The forest surrounding El Silencio can be explored on foot or horseback. There are waterfalls and rivers in abundance, while keen bird watchers will find much to admire, including many species of hummingbird, barbet, flycatcher, warbler and the rare resplendent quetzal. In addition, there are many varieties of butterfly to spot, as well as interesting plant life, including tree ferns, bromeliads, orchids, mosses and lichens. Mammals include sloths and white-nosed coatis. Jaguars are very rarely spotted within Juan Castro Blanco National Park.
Accommodation
El Silencio offers 16 stand-alone suites that are stylish and contemporary in design. The rooms have been designed to make the most of the views, and feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows, private terraces, and outdoor hot tubs. In addition, there are two and three-bedroomed luxury villas, which come with private dining rooms and lounges to accommodate families or small groups. Each suite is assigned a concierge who can arrange activities. There are no TVs in the rooms, only in the rooms at the two and three-bedroom villas.
Dining
Las Ventanas Restaurant provides local specialities utilising produce from the hotel’s own organic farm. Large windows allow for views of the forest and Gorrión River.
