The Elephant House is a lovely lodge situated on the outskirts of Addo Elephant National Park, in the sun-kissed Sundays River Valley. It's a colonial-era farmhouse, offering comfortable accommodation in a homely setting. The décor – Africana art, Persian rugs, African antiques – is evocative of an earlier era.
The Elephant House's proximity to Addo Elephant National Park makes it a good location for a safari, but it's equally well placed for exploring the many sights of the Eastern Cape. Tours into the Sundays River Valley are offered from the lodge, as are daily driven and horseback safaris with experienced guides. As well as Addo National Park, the game reserves of Schotia, Amakhala, Pumba and Lalibela Big 5 are all accessible from Elephant House. It's a 45 minute drive to the coast and Port Elizabeth.
Accommodation
Elephant House accommodates guests in eight air-conditioned and en-suite rooms with private verandas. The rooms are separate to the main house and open onto the courtyard, pool and gardens. They are spacious and generously furnished, each with a large en-suite bathroom. One of the rooms is a family suite.
Dining
The Elephant House kitchen prepares lovely light lunches on the terrace or beside one of the pools. After a sundowner in the evenings, sit down to a delicious three course candlelit dinner prepared using the very best of local produce and fine Cape wines. Meals are typically served outdoors unless the weather says otherwise.
