Elsamere is a lovely garden lodge situated on the shores of Lake Naivasha. It forms part of the Elsamere Conservation Centre, and offers cosy accommodation in ten private guestrooms overlooking the lake.
Much of the appeal of Elsamere Lodge comes from its history, as the former home of Joy Adamson (of 'Born Free' fame). Guests at the property have the opportunity to learn more about the Adamson family as well as the work of today's Elsa Conservation Trust.
This heritage also lends the lodge much of its unique character. Each of the ten rooms is individually furnished, taking its name from one of Joy Adamson's pets (including, of course, Elsa the Lioness). Photographs from the era and other period pieces give every cottage the intimacy of a room in a family home.
Elsamere Lodge is most often used as a stop-over for those travelling between the Masai Mara, Mt Kenya and the Aberdares, but it's a lovely lodge that will make a pleasant addition to any itinerary. Though it is not primarily a safari lodge, game drives to Hell's Gate National Park can be organised, as can boat trips on Lake Naivasha.
Accommodation
Elsamere accommodates its guests in ten private cottage rooms, set in verdant gardens around the former Adamson family home (now the main centre of the Elsa Conservation Trust). Each of the en-suite rooms is individually furnished and opens onto a verandah facing Lake Naivasha.
Dining
Meals are typically served al fresco on the garden lawns (when the weather permits) or in the old dining room. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style, while dinner is a set menu.
The Elsa Conservation Trust attracts a large number of day visitors so you will often be joined by others. Private tables can be arranged on request.
