To reach Fanjove Island you first fly to Songosongo Island, 40 mins from Dar es Salaam, and then transfer by boat to Fanjove Private Island – if you are lucky, you will be accompanied by a pod of Bottle Nosed dolphins!
This is a unique island in many ways... nobody resides on Fanjove, except the staff and guests, ensuring you have the whole island to yourself!
Naturally, the island is a wildlife paradise with thousands of migrant birds, green turtles (which nest and lay their eggs on the beach), dolphins and humpback whales that pass through on their migration. For divers and snorkelers there is a spectacular 11km of intact coral reef to explore.
Accommodation
Fanjove Island offers six ‘Eco Bandas’, shaped in perfect harmony with the landscape. Each has an en-suite bathroom open to the sky for showers under the stars. The Bandas are spaced along the main beach to guarantee privacy and all enjoy uninterrupted views of the ocean. To make the most of these views the bandas are completely open at the front – a central door which works similarly to a lift bridge, is connected with a rope to a pulley.
Designed with the environment in mind, the bandas are powered by solar power. Guests are kindly asked to be aware of their water consumption – as fresh water is not found on the island it is shipped daily from the mainland.
