Fugitives' Drift is a comfortable lodge and guest house complex situated within its own 4,000 acre nature reserve, overlooking the battlefield site of Isandlwana and the Oskarberg at Rorke's Drift.
Fugitives' Drift basks in its history and that of the region. The main lodge is a veritable museum of relics and memorabilia pertaining to the Zulu War and the late colonial era. Guests at Fugitives' Drift can take part in tours of the battlefield sites, which are run from the lodge
There are two properties at Fugitives' Drift, the Lodge and Guesthouse. The Guesthouse is an old cottage, heavily altered but retaining many of its original features, such as the verandas, which offer great views over the plains to Isandlwana. The Lodge is a more recent addition, though built on the site of an old homestead.
Fugitives' Drift will mainly be of interest to those wishing to explore the battlefields, but it's also a wildlife reserve, with giraffe and antelope to be seen (very little big game).
Accommodation
Just six rooms in the old house, all individually decorated. They open onto private verandas with great views. The lodge has a further eight rooms and an annex cottage.
The same tours are offered from both the guesthouse and lodge.
