Fusion Maia is a luxurious beachfront all-villa resort attached to a world-class spa that is widely considered one of the best in Asia. The resort is situated on My Khe Beach, between Danang and the heritage town of Hoi An, and offers total privacy. Every guest room has its own private pool and walled garden.
The design of Fusion Maia is ultra-modern and stylish, with spacious open-plan suites and clean-cut, minimalist public areas. At the front of the hotel is a beautiful infinity pool overlooking the beach and ocean, and around it the main public areas, which are glass-fronted so as to make the most of the views. It’s all very sleek and polished, not to mention immaculately serviced.
Fusion Maia is a place to relax, and the staff will go out of their way to help you do so. The hotel is very flexible in all respects. There are no fixed meal times—you can take your meals whenever you please. And as almost everything is included in the room rates, not excluding spa treatments, you have full rein to indulge yourself! A number of the suites have their own kitchenettes, ideal for those on long stays who prefer to self-cater.
Shaded by huge bamboo trees, My Khe Beach is beautiful, but it has seen a lot of development. While Maia enjoys a private strip of the beach to itself, it isn’t as isolated as one would hope. There was some noise from nearby construction on our last visit, which somewhat hampered the mood, though this was in low season and we don’t believe it’s a regular occurrence.
Fusion Maia’s location is convenient for exploring the coastal regions of Central Vietnam. It is about 20 minutes from Hoi An by car (the hotel provides a free shuttle service back and forth, and also provides complimentary bicycles). If you plan to spend a lot of time exploring Hoi An, we would recommend combining your stay at Fusion Maia with one to two nights in a hotel in town, giving you time to really explore the heritage town’s lively centre. Other nearby attractions include the temple complex at My Son (one hour’s drive), which is essential if you’re interested in Vietnam’s often-overlooked Cham era (see also the Cham museum in Danang).
Accommodation
From outside, Fusion Maia’s villas have been designed to resemble the traditional Vietnamese homes found in nearby Hue and Hoi An, but the interiors are modern chic and feature all the amenities you would expect of a resort of this class: AC, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, media centre with iPod stand and DVD player.
The villas are incredibly spacious and feature separate living areas and luxurious bathrooms with sunken bathtubs. They are large enough that you could easily imagine yourself moving in permanently! Each villa is walled off—hampering the view but providing privacy—and has its own garden and courtyard area with plunge pool.
Dining
The Five Dining Room serves a mix of Asian cuisine in a contemporary setting, while the Tonic Lounge is the place for light snacks and tapas. Snacks are also available at the Fresh Pool Bar.
Fusion Maia also has a bar in Hoi An, the Fusion Lounge, which overlooks the river.
There’s a shuttle service to Hoi An each evening, so you can easily dine out.
