The Goha Hotel is perched high on a hill overlooking the city of Gondar and its surrounds. It is the sister hotel to the Yeha in Axum, and shares with that hotel the same mix of traditional Ethiopian décor and modern amenities.
Hotel facilities include a swimming pool, restaurant, bar and campfire, internet access (surcharge payable) and 24-hour room service.
Catering primarily to travellers covering the popular Historic Route, Goha Hotel offers good access to Gondar's main attractions, including Fasil Ghebbi and Debre Birhan Selassie Church.
The Goha Hotel is a government-owned hotel. Ethiopia's state hotels have had a poor reputation in the past, but they've generally improved a great deal (the Goha, for instance, underwent refurbishment in early 2014) and many are now privately managed. The Goha probably has the best location in Gondar, in terms of the view, so don't write it off, but do keep in mind that the service can be rather impersonal. Treat it as a comfortable base from which to explore the attractions of Gondar, and not a resort.
Accommodation
The Goha Hotel consists of 60 rooms, all spacious, clean and comfortable, with large beds, full bathroom amenities, and traditional Ethiopian furniture. The standard rooms are sparsely furnished, but comfortable. The king and suite rooms (pictured) are larger and in the case of the suites have separate living areas.
Dining
The Goha's restaurant serves a tasty blend of traditional Ethiopian and European cuisine, prepared with local ingredients, and served in a relaxed atmosphere. Weekend evening meals are accompanied by live music and dance. There is a good wine selection.

Gondar historical tours - visit the Church of Debre Birhan Selassie, and the 17th century Bath Palace and castle of Emperor Fasilides
