Opened in August 2014 to replace the now-closed Skeleton Coast Camp, Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is a luxury camp in Namibia operated by Wilderness Safaris. The new camp's location is superb, providing access to both the Skeleton Coast National Park and to Palmwag Reserve (the camp is situated on the outskirts of the Reserve), thus combining the stark landscapes of the Skeleton Coast with excellent game-viewing territory in Palmwag. Its immediate location, on the edge of the transient Hoanib River in a sheltered valley, allows for stunning views.
Gane and Marshall staff have yet to visit Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, but we expect it will meet the same high standards set by other Wilderness camps. From what we've seen, the camp's design is decidedly minimalist, its stylish tented rooms blending in effortlessly with the stark landscape.
Accommodation
With only seven twin tents and one family tent, Hoanib Skeleton Coast is an exclusive camp, accessible only by light aircraft on account of its remote location. Guests at Hoanib Skeleton Coast are guaranteed to have the surrounding wilderness to themselves.
Facilities
The facilities at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp include a small pool, fire pit, bar and lounge, and library.
Activities
Available activities include game drives onto the previously inaccessible Hoanib floodplains, guided walks, scenic flights, and explorations of the Skeleton Coast, with the option to visit a seal colony. A flight over the Skeleton Coast is included with longer stays of 3 nights or more. Given the difficulty (and expense!) of accessing a camp as remote as this, a long stay is recommended.
For more information on the Skeleton Coast, see our overview of the region. This is one of the most remote and beautiful regions of Namibia, which very few people get the chance to visit. Its vast dunes and windswept beaches are simply captivating.
Child Policy
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp accommodates children over the age of 8 (at full adult rates).
