Ideally located just a few minutes’ from the iconic Ananda Pagoda, the Hotel at Tharabar Gate couldn’t be better placed for exploring Bagan’s famous temples. Indeed, it is one of only two hotels situated inside the Bagan archaeological zone, where new developments are prohibited (Tharabar Gate opened many years ago, before the regulations tightened). Many of Bagan’s most prominent temples are literally on your doorstep when you stay at the Hotel at Tharabar Gate, which can’t be said of any other hotel in the region.
As well as its enviable location, Tharabar Gate also offers gorgeous suites. There are 84 rooms in total, though the hotel manages to feel smaller than it is, with the rooms widely dispersed throughout the gardens.
This resort-style hotel is a great place to relax after sightseeing, with its pretty gardens and generous facilities. There’s a lovely pool, cosy bar and a fully-equipped spa.
Accommodation
Tharabar Gate’s 84 rooms and suites are light and airy, with large windows and high ceilings. They are furnished in a modern contemporary style, and feature attractive living areas. They open onto small terraces at the front and private walled gardens at the back (some of the rooms lack a garden).
Amenities found in all rooms include air conditioning, satellite TV, in-room safe and tea and coffee making facilities.
Dining
The Ananada Restaurant offers a good mix of local and more familiar international cuisine. Meals can be taken indoors, in the garden or by the pool. The tables are carried out onto the hotel’s lawn most evenings for candlelit dining.
