Hyena Pan is a simple tented camp located in the huge Khwai Private Reserve, part of the Okavango Delta. Bordered by Moremi and Chobe National Parks, the Khwai Reserve offers good, year-round game-viewing.
Hyena Pan is sheltered by Mopane trees and overlooks a small pan which provides a year round water supply for wildlife and birds. During the green season of December to March, when the pans are filled with water, a huge variety of waterbirds can be observed here.
Close to Hyena Pan camp is the smaller Hyena Pan Skybeds, which consists of 4 large treehouses overlooking the waterhole. Adding a night or two under the stars is a fantastic addition to a standard safari.
Hyena Pan is very much a classic bush camp, accommodating its guests in simple canvas tents. It has the advantage of an excellent location for wildlife-viewing, and unlike some other mid-range Okavango camps, Hyena Pan is small and private, with just eight tented rooms. This, combined with the diversity of activities on offer (day and night game drives, elephant tracking, walking safaris) and the excellent service, make it a wonderful budget safari camp for those wanting to prioritise good game-viewing above all else.
