Ichingo Chobe River Lodge is situated at the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers, the natural border between Namibia and Botswana. From its perch on the southern side of Impalila Island, it enjoys a fabulous view of the Chobe River.

Ichingo Chobe River Lodge’s centrepiece is a thatched open-air lounge and sit-up bar, constructed above the water on raised wooden platforms. Taking advantage of the lodge’s unique position, it opens onto a broad viewing deck with an unobstructed view across the river to Botswana. Separate to the main lounge and bar area, a small swimming pool and sun deck also occupy the river's edge.

Eight tented suites are positioned a little further back from the water amidst the riverine forest, and spaced well apart to ensure privacy.

The core appeal of this region is its fishing and birding safaris (the eastern Caprivi Strip is a noted birding region with a number of rarities present, including lilac-breasted rollers, African jacana and all manner of waterfowl), though big game from Chobe can also be sighted during the boat safaris that are the focus of daily activities at Ichingo. 4x4 game drives are not offered.

Accommodation

Eight Meru-style safari tents are situated beneath the tree canopy on the banks of the Chobe River, with private verandah at the front and an en-suite bathroom at the back. The tents have been fitted with wooden doors and flooring, and furnished with dark mahogany furniture, local fabrics and rugs. Gauze net windows allow in lots of air and light while keeping out the mosquitos.

Ichingo's tents are air-conditioned and equipped with electric lights.

Ichingo Lodge also offers four houseboats for overnight stays on the Chobe River. The Zambezi Queen and the Chobe Princesses (of which there are three) are booked separately but many guests choose to combine one to two nights on one of the houseboats with a night either end at Ichingo.

Dining

Meals are typically served under thatch in the dining and lounge area, or else out on the river banks by the fire pit when weather permits. Meals are communal, but private tables can be arranged on request.
