Ihamba Lakeside Safari Lodge

Located on the shores of Lake George, in the north of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Ihamba is a mid-scale safari lodge which benefits from its fabulous setting, overlooking both the savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth and the Rwenzori Mountains.

Opened in 2012, Ihamba is one of the newer properties in Queen Elizabeth NP, a safari park that has seen relatively few new developments in recent years. It offers just ten stone-and-thatch safari cottages, furnished in an African style though with modern design elements such as underfloor heating, helping Ihamba to stand out in a safari park where many of the established lodges look increasingly tired.

Modern conveniences aside, Ihamba is very much a traditional East African safari lodge. The lounge, bar and dining area are housed in a large thatched building, supported by exposed wooden beams and furnished with African carvings and fabrics. This opens onto a terrace with swimming pool and deck chairs. Winding pathways connect the guest areas and cottages, which are spaced well apart so as to ensure privacy. The rooms are spacious and made up with generous double beds. Private verandahs make the most of the views - of the plains and Lake George in one direction, and the Rwenzori Mountains in the other.

Ihamba Lodge is approx. 30 minutes' drive from Kasese, and serves as a good spot for a few nights' rest for those journeying between Kibale and Bwindi, or as a comfortable lodge in which to wind down after a Rwenzori trek.

Accommodation

Ihamba's ten rooms are generously sized and furnished with queen-size double beds draped in mosquito nets. All rooms are en-suite (with shower), air-conditioned and have underfloor heating for the cool winter nights. Glass sliding doors open onto a private verandah with a view towards the mountains or lake.

Dining

A light continental breakfast (with cooked dishes to order) is served either on the terrace or in the indoor dining area when the weather necessitates. Dinner is a three-course fixed menu, and can be taken privately in your room or in the dining area.
