Karamba Resort is situated in the fishermen's village of Kizimkazi, on the south west coast of Zanzibar. This is part of the Menai Bay Conservation Area, which is far removed from the more crowded tourist spots.
Karamba occupies a beautiful setting on a long stretch of palm-fringed beach, directly overlooking the Indian Ocean. It is a small retreat - a far cry from the mega-resorts that have come to dominate parts of Zanzibar's coastline - comprised of only 19 sea-front rooms, a lounge, bar and swimming pool, all surrounded by tropical gardens.
Accommodation
There are 19 bungalows at Karamba split between four categories. All of the rooms, from the standard category to the luxury suites, are comfortable and spacious. Each has an en-suite bathroom with hot running water, double/twin beds draped with mosquito netting, ceiling fan (no air-con) and verandah facing the beach.
Some of the rooms can accommodate extra beds, making Karamba ideal for families.
Dining
Meals are served by candle light on the beach or in the seafront restaurant. The restaurant offers local and international cuisine, with an emphasis on Mediterranean dishes and, of course, lots of fresh seafood.
There is a bar on the beach, offering a good selection of cocktails, wines, beers and spirits.
