Kilindi Beach Resort is a small retreat situated along a stretch of pristine beach on the northern coast of Zanzibar. It is one of most stunning beach resorts on an island that is hardly short of them, and also one of the oldest. The original lodge was built in the 70s (it was allegedly designed by Björn Ulvaeus, with the aid of bandmate Benny Andersson, both of Abba fame!), and has since been redesigned by N. Rocher. The Scandinavian influence is visible throughout - Kilindi's stylish design combines Scandinavian cool with Swahili motifs. Light, airy rooms feature clean, modern furnishings, while also incorporating more traditional African features.
Kilindi has a marvellous location on the north-western coast of Zanzibar, where it overlooks the busy Dhow trading routes. Its fifteen rooms, or pavilions, are scattered among the verdant tropical gardens. This beautiful setting, combined with the small size of the hotel, make for a wonderful boutique retreat.
Accommodation
There are just fifteen rooms at Kilindi. The rooms have been constructed as pavilions, with Arabic-influenced domed roofs. They are light and airy, and equipped with traditional Swahili furnishings, including large Zanzibari beds. Each has a private plunge pool, sun terrace and a view of the sea. Thirteen of the pavilions are twin/doubles, while the remaining two rooms are larger units, with two bedrooms on separate floors.
Dining
Meals are typically served al fresco, though evening meals might be taken in the indoor dining room. The menus are rich and varied, with an emphasis, naturally, on seafood.
