Lake Burunge Tented Camp is a mid-range safari lodge situated on the edge of Lake Burunge, just 15 minutes’ drive from the primary entrance to Tarangire National Park. The elevated rooms and viewing decks provide superb views of the Lake and, beyond it, Tarangire.
Operated by Tanganyika Wilderness Camps, Lake Burunge is, in keeping with most of their lodges, very keenly priced – and this, combined with the quality of the accommodation, make the camp one of our favourite options for visiting Tarangire on a mid-range budget. The large luxury tents have hardwood floors, large beds with wrought iron frames and mosquito nets, and are attractively furnished with local fabrics. There is a central bar/dining area and a swimming pool, all with views of the lake.
Accommodation
The rooms at Lake Burunge Tented Camp are tented chalets - Meru-style tents set on raised wooden platforms and with wooden beams supporting a thatched roof. There are 26 standard rooms, as well as an additional 6 family suites, which largely conform to the layout of the standard rooms but which feature two conjoined rooms.
Inside, the tents are attractively furnished, with wrought iron canopy beds, Maasai fabrics, and oil lanterns giving them a wonderfully rustic feel. The large double tents are spacious and airy, with wooden flooring and large mesh windows to allow in the light.
All rooms are en-suite with built-in showers.
Dining
Meals at Lake Burunge Camp are taken in the thatched dining room or on the open deck (weather permitting). Private dining on the decks can also be arranged, as can bush picnics.
