Madagascar's capital Antananarivo has several delightful old mansions which make it one of the most historic and authentic cities in Africa. A number of these have been converted into hotels, like the Pavillon de l’Emyrne, a beautiful and traditional 1930s colonial-era building situated in the city centre.
Le Pavillon de l'Emyrne completely reflects the personality of its French owner who has worked hard to restore the building and its contents. Antique furniture and unusual objects have been discovered in Antananarivo, and then lovingly restored to be used within the hotel giving it a museum’s atmosphere (albeit a very relaxed museum!)
With great views of the royal hill and plains, the hotel is located in the busy heart of the old city and surrounded by trendy restaurants.
This is a special and unusual boutique-style hotel which manages to comfortably combine unique interior design with decor that recalls the history of Madagascar. It costs a little bit more than the competition, but we can highly recommend Le Pavillon de l’Emyrne if you are looking for something unique.
