Little Makalolo’s great appeal is in the privacy it offers its guests. Located in a private concession in the remote east of Hwange, guests at Little Makalolo are unlikely to encounter many other safari vehicles while on game drives. The landscape surrounding the camp is diverse and beautiful, and attracts plentiful game all year round. There are good numbers of predators to be found here, including lion, hyena, leopard and cheetah, as well as large herds of elephant and buffalo – to highlight only the “big” fauna!
Little Makalolo has been discretely positioned within a grove of teak trees, from where it overlooks the surrounding wilderness. Immediately in front of the camp is a large waterhole that draws in lots of wildlife. To make the most of this location, Makalolo has two hides – a tree house and a log pile – both of which overlook the waterhole.
Little Makalolo is ideally suited for those guests wanting the privacy of a bush camp but without sacrificing too much comfort. Managed by luxury safari operator Wilderness Safaris, it offers an excellent standard of accommodation, while also providing access to some of the best game-viewing territories of eastern Hwange.
Accommodation
Little Makalolo offers just six spacious timber-framed rooms, which are connected to a central guest area by wooden walkways. The rooms are permanent structures as opposed to tents, but with canvas roofs and mesh-covered windows to allow in a cooling breeze (the rooms are also fan-cooled). Inside, the rooms are furnished with king-size or twin beds, bright floor coverings, decorative artwork, and vibrant fabrics. En-suite bathrooms have indoor and outdoor showers, two washbasins, and a separate cubicle housing a flush toilet. Each room also opens onto a shaded veranda with table and chairs.
Little Makalolo also offers a “star bed” experience, allowing guests to sleep out under the stars. The sleep-out platform is located approx. 20 minutes’ drive from the camp and overlooks a large waterhole, Madison Pan.
