Little Ongava is the sister camp to Ongava Main Camp and Ongava Lodge, with which it shares the 70,000 acre Ongava Game Reserve, a wilderness region on the southern border of Etosha National Park. Managed by Wilderness Safaris, it is one of their 'premier camps', and offers among the highest standards of luxury in the region. This isn't to say that Little Ongava is glitzy or overly ostentatious; Wilderness Safaris' camps are for the most part stylish but unfussy, and Little Ongava, with its contemporary decor and tranquil atmosphere, is no exception.
For those who want the utmost privacy, Little Ongava is a fine choice of camp, its remote location and small size (there are only three rooms) ensuring an intimate stay. It also offers a reliably good game-viewing experience. Guests at Little Ongava share the reserve with only two other camps, and so are unlikely to see many other vehicles when out on game drives, or when viewing game from the lodge's discrete hide. Etosha National Park, famous for its watering holes which attract staggering concentrations of game, is only a short drive away.
Accommodation
Little Ongava is a highly intimate safari camp. There are just three private suites, located some distance from each other, and connected to the main lodge building by wooden walkways. The chalets are constructed of stone and thatch, and located on the crest of the boulder-strewn hill on which Little Ongava perches, a prime position from where they enjoy stunning views of the wild African bush below and the watering hole in front of the camp. Shaded viewing decks and lookout points allow for easy game-viewing.
Inside, Little Ongava's suites are open and spacious, each with a private deck with plunge pool, bathroom en-suite with outdoor shower, sala/lounge, and bedroom.
Dining
Little Ongava's entertainment area lends itself to relaxed dining. The menus are always interesting and varied, and the bar well-stocked. In-room dining can be arranged on request.
