Makuzi Beach Lodge is a small, family owned lodge which occupies a lovely private beach on the northern shores of Lake Malawi. Approx. 4 hours’ drive from Lilongwe (slightly longer if taking the scenic coastal road, which we recommend!), the setting is truly picturesque and secluded.
Makuzi has a real rustic charm. The lodge centres on a thatched bar and lounge area, elevated on rocks above the shoreline of Lake Malawi so as to make the most of the views. The dining area has a large terrace for outdoor dining – also with lake views. Guests are accommodated in eleven stone and thatch chalets, scattered around the well-tended gardens and overlooking the beach.
Makuzi’s location on the northern shores of the lake, just south of Chintheche, means it is removed from the busier tourist beaches in the national park area on the southern shores. There’s much to see and do in this region. Guests can enjoy a walk to nearby Makuzi Hill for far reaching and dramatic lake views. Snorkelling and kayaking are possible and fishing can also be arranged. Diving can be organised from nearby Nkhata Bay or Kande Beach. Horse riding can also be arranged from Kande Beach.
Accommodation
Makuzi Beach Lodge offers five standard chalets, all located facing the beach with the gardens behind. Each room is in a separate stone-and-thatch cottage, and furnished with double bed, mozzie net, electric fans, and tea/coffee making facilities. The rooms are fan-cooled and en-suite (shower only).
Three superior cottages offer more space than the standard rooms, featuring spacious living areas and full en-suite bathrooms, with separate shower and bathtub. The superior chalets are built into the rocks a short walk from the main area offering extra privacy, making them perfect for honeymooners.
There are also three family cottage within the standard category, each with two open plan bedrooms sleeping 4 people.

Makuzi Lodge accepts children of all ages. There are three interconnected family chalets accommodating families of up to four.
