Mkoma Bay Tented Lodge is a lovely beach resort located just 45 kilometres south of Tanga and four kilometres north of Pangani on the northern Tanzanian coastline.
Mkoma Bay is a rustic, intimate lodge. Nine tents and bandas nestled in amongst a copse of trees have the appeal of a safari camp with the added advantage of being on the Indian Ocean.
Though a small lodge, Mkoma Bay has one of the few swimming pools on the northern coast of Zanzibar, as well as a lovely bar/restaurant, where you can lie by the pool or sip a cool drink while gazing out onto the bay.
Mkoma Bay has the advantage of being located on a quiet, remote section of the Tanzanian coast, which it enjoys largely to itself. You shouldn't see any beach boys or salesman!
Accommodation
Mkoma Bay Tented Lodge offers nine thatch-covered tents nestled among flora palms a little way back from the beach. Each tent is equipped with either a double or two large single Zanzibari beds, en suite bathroom, writing desk with chair, electric fan, and mosquito net. The verandah provides views of the wild gardens and a place to have a cool drink.
For larger groups or families, there is a spacious Swahili-style private villa overlooking the ocean, with four bedrooms (one en-suite; the others share a bathroom and separate toilet). The house has a vast open terrace – the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach or pool.
There is also the lower budget option of five bungalows, each equipped with a double sized bed or two twins, mosquito net, fan, sink, and simple furniture.
Mkoma Bay has recently added two additional family tents, similar to the standard tents but larger in size (they accommodate 3-5; one double, one single and one camp bed).
Dining
The restaurant provides excellent meals specialising in seafood and utilizing fresh local produce. Most of the food is homemade, including plenty of freshly baked bread.

Child Policy
Children are welcome at Mkoma Bay Tented Lodge. Those under twelve sharing with parents stay for half the adult rate (75% of the adult rate if in their own room).
There are two family tents accommodating 3-5 persons, while the Swahili House accommodates as many as 8.
