Located in the vast grasslands of the eastern Serengeti, where there are very few roads and even fewer camps, Namiri is a haven for wildlife. The camp has a wonderfully secluded position, which guarantees exclusive and rewarding game-viewing away from the more crowded central plains of the Serengeti.
The region of the Serengeti occupied by Namiri Plains was closed to visitors for more than 20 years to allow the cheetah population to recover and replenish its numbers. Now there is a large population of cheetah as well as several active prides of lion and many leopard. Other wildlife to be seen here includes zebra, elephant, giraffe, buffalo, hyenas and hippo.
Accommodation
Namiri Plains offers ten gorgeous rooms and a two-bedroom family tent either side of the main lounge and dining area. The striking design is more reminiscent of a Namibian desert camp than a typical East African safari camp. The rooms are constructed with thick stone walls and wooden ceilings, set on raised decking beneath a broad canvas awning. Each room opens onto a generous deck with full-size loungers and large cushions.
The interiors are spacious, modern in design, and feature floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the Serengeti plains. The décor uses earthy colours and handwoven materials to great effect. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with shower overlooking the seasonal riverbed that runs alongside the camp, and a standalone bathtub positioned on the main deck.
