Neptune Ngorongoro is part of the Neptune chain of hotels, which incorporates a number of beach and safari properties in Kenya and Tanzania. Though the chain focuses more on beach lodges, they have a done a fabulous job in designing Neptune Ngorongoro. The thatched log cabins sit easily with their natural environment and are tastefully furnished inside, with polished floorboards, hardwood furnishings and wood-burning stoves.
Neptune Ngorongoro makes the most of its hilltop location, with the rooms and public areas all looking west over the crater highlands. The central hub area – comprising bar, lounge and dining room – opens onto a wraparound verandah, from where a pathway leads down through the gardens to a raised pool deck overlooking the valley.
Ngorongoro Neptune is located almost immediately outside the Ngorongoro Crater entrance gate, making the lodge very convenient for those wanting a head start on an early morning game drive into the Crater.
Accommodation
The 20 large suites form a line on the crest of the hill. Each of the generously-sized units is self-contained and features separate bedroom and lounge area, an en-suite bathroom, and private deck. The lounge areas are very cosy, each with coffee table, armchairs, and a comfortable sofa that can be made up as a sofa bed for families. The bedrooms feature large double or twin beds and an open fireplace. Both rooms open onto the verandah, which is furnished with ample seating and a small dining table for private dining. Décor is stylishly African with polished wood, handmade carvings and artwork.
