Ngare Serian is one of the Masai Mara's most intimate bush camps. It is situated in the exclusive Mara North conservancy, which it shares with its sister camp, Serian Main Camp. Both Serian camps are set on the edge of the Mara River within walking distance of each other.
The Serian Camps are owned by Alex Walker, an exceptional guide with over 30 years of experience in the Mara. They have a reputation for being among the Mara's very best camps, thanks to their stylish accommodation and superb guides. Ngara Serian Camp is very much a luxury camp, but it also offers a real bush experience in one of the Masai Mara's best game areas, the Mara North conservancy, which accommodates huge quantities of game but only a very small number of visitors.
Ngare Serian pitches itself as a camp for the more intrepid traveller, who seeks adventure as well as luxury pampering. Just accessing the camp is indeed something of an adventure, requiring you to walk across a 50m-long hanging bridge over the Mara River, an experience which some may find a little daunting. Once at the camp, however, guests will quickly feel at home.
Ngare Serian is a beautifully furnished camp with a wonderful atmosphere. It's fairly simple on the surface, just four classic marquee guest tents surrounding the central mess area with lounge, bar, dining area and firepit, but there's a careful attention to detail at Ngare Serian, as at all Serian camps, that gives it an understated quality.
Due to the intimate nature of the camp, Ngare Seian is ideal for a family gathering or a group of friends wanting to book the camp on a private basis.
Accommodation
There are four large safari tents pitched on hard wooden decks and set overlooking the Mara River. In a nice change from the Meru-style tents that are a feature of most East African safari camps, Ngare Serian uses very large, very beautiful marquee tents. Inside, the tents are furnished with huge four-poster beds, comfy armchairs, hardwood furniture and rugs on top of polished hardwood flooring. Separate to the bedrooms are large en-suite bathrooms with freestanding bathtubs, showers and flush loos. There is no electricity; rather, the tents are lit by candles and lanterns.
Dining
With a high staff to guest ratio, you will be well looked after at Ngare Serian! The day starts with tea in bed and then your guide will arrange for a picnic breakfast, bush lunch, and maybe a starlit dinner. You can consult with the chef and arrange for a menu to suit your tastes.
