Norman Carr Cottage is located on a lovely stretch of beach in the bay of Namakoma, on the southern shores of Lake Malawi – once a favourite spot and private retreat of legendary safari guide Norman Carr. This is a tiny lodge – just 6 rooms plus the addition of a 2 bedroomed family cottage – that is often booked on a private basis.
Guests at Norman Carr Cottage are hosted by owners Taffy and Jenny, who are always on hand to ensure your stay is comfortable. Although not a luxury lodge, you will find the accommodation extremely comfortable, while the secluded location, right by the lake and surrounded by indigenous Mango forest, is delightful. A highlight here are the sailing trips on the lodge’s private boat, the ‘Bonnie Alfie’, which allows for leisurely sundowners on sunset cruises or early morning excursions to enjoy swimming in the rock pools.
Norman Carr Cottage is located in the popular Cape Maclear area, within the boundaries of Lake Malawi National Park, allowing for easy access from Blantyre and Lilongwe.
Accommodation
Norman Carr Cottage has six rooms, accommodating a maximum of twelve guests. There is in addition a 2 bedroomed family cottage. The rooms are large and airy, with king size beds, hardwood furnishings and open air showers. They have been brightly furnished with African fabrics and carvings.
Of the six rooms, four are executive suites which are directly overlook the beach. The two courtyard rooms are located further back from the beach but still enjoy a view of the lake.
The family cottage is set apart from the main building amid a grove of mango trees. It has two double bedrooms with open air showers and a shared toilet.
Dining
Norman Carr Cottage offers delicious home-cooked meals, served in the open-air beach dining area overlooking the waters of Lake Malawi. Dinner is a set menu, but your hosts are happy to accommodate requests and dietary requirements with prior notice.
