Situated on the western side of Etosha National Park, near the public entrance, Okaukuejo Restcamp is the largest of the rest camps within the region, and also doubles as a centre for park rangers and researchers. Formerly government owned and managed, it's a large and old hotel built in the 1950s.
While some will find the size of Okaukuejo Restcamp unappealing (100+ rooms), it has the advantage of a very good location within the boundaries of the National Park. The large floodlit waterhole in front of the camp receives regular visits from elephant, lion and even rhino, as well as the park's otherwise shy nocturnal wildlife. Good facilities and reliable service also make Okaukuejo Restcamp easy to recommend for those willing to forgo the privacy offered by the many smaller camps and guesthouses located just outside of Etosha National Park. It's particularly ideal for those on self-drive holidays, as it is easy to access and offers good self-catering facilities.
