Oliver's Camp is the standout safari camp in Tarangire. It has the best location of any camp in the park, and provides absolutely superb game-viewing opportunities.
Oliver's Camp is situated in the remote south of Tarangire National Park, quite some distance from Tarangire's main northern gate. Here it enjoys access to some of the best game-viewing territory Tarangire has to offer, including direct access to the Minyonyo Pools and Silale swamps, which attract huge quantities of game in the dry season. The large elephant herds for which Tarangire is famous are regularly sighted in this region, as are large herds of buffalo and antelope. The terrain in the southern regions of Tarangire is quite different to the baobab country in the north of the park, and sees fewer visitors.
Oliver's Camp is fairly traditional in its appearance, a 'colonial'-style camp with an open-air dining room and thatched lounge at its centre, connected by sandy footpaths to ten beautifully-appointed guest tents. Luxurious without being overly glitzy, you'll quick feel at home at Oliver's. The camp does a great job of capturing the ambience of a traditional bush camp without sacrificing any comforts.
In late 2013, Oliver's Camp expanded to include the addition of a smaller, more exclusive camp, appropriately named Little Oliver's. This new camp is located a short distance from the main camp and offers five highly luxurious tents, making it ideal for groups or just those looking for a little extra privacy (Little Oliver's can be booked on an individual room or exclusive basis).
We love Oliver's Camp. Thanks to its small size, beautiful guest rooms, and remote location, it provides a level of luxury and exclusivity that is increasingly hard to find in Tanzania's busy northern circuit game parks. Along with Little Oliver's, it is also the only camp in Tarangire that offers walking safaris and fly camping expeditions.
Accommodation
Oliver's Camp has ten tented rooms, built on raised wooden decks and shaded by thick thatch roofs. In keeping with the bush camp vibe, they have a very rustic feel, with roughly cut tree trunks in place of side tables and a large solid wooden bed at the centre of the room. Masai fabrics and ornaments help brighten up the rooms. The bathrooms are generous in size and feature outdoor showers.
The tents at Little Oliver's are very similar in decor and layout to those at the main camp, but have the addition of a large bathroom with both indoor and outdoor shower. They are spaced far apart so as to allow for privacy.
Dining
Meals at Oliver's are typically served around the long communal dining table in the mess area, or if preferred, on your private verandah. The menus are creative and incorporate lots of fresh local produce.
Little Oliver's has a separate dining area.
