Owned and run by the Janssens-Onsea family, Onsea House is a small city guesthouse with a prime location in Arusha’s greenbelt, approx. 30 minutes from Kilimanjaro. With only four bedrooms set among beautiful gardens, it offers a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, making it the perfect extension to an intimate safari.
We regularly book Onsea House, and the adjoining Machweo Retreat, for small groups or solo travellers on one of our Kilimanjaro climbs or Northern Circuit safaris - its small size and easy atmosphere makes it ideal for those looking for a relaxed retreat and not a busy city hotel. The rates are reasonable.
Accommodation
Onsea is comprised of a main house, with two guest rooms, dining and lounge area, and a separate cottage, which houses two additional guest rooms and a private swimming pool. All of the rooms are light, airy and spacious, and designed in a simple, understated style. Spotlessly clean, the rooms have large four-poster beds, Italian linens, and wooden writing desks. The bathrooms are en-suite with both bath and shower.
Dining
Managed by Belgian chef Axel Janssens, Onsea’s Michelin-starred restaurant is a popular spot with locals and ex-pats. Meals are served on the roof terrace, with views towards Mt. Meru, or indoors in the dining room. There is also a bar/lounge.
