Pig's Inn Xidi

Pig's Inn Xidi is a charming guesthouse converted from a 400 year-old Ming-era residence, tucked away in a quiet corner of Xidi village.

This charming guesthouse occupies a 400 year-old Ming-era residence in a quiet corner of Xidi village.

A far cry from the “big-is-better” style of development that one tends to associate with modern Chinese hotels, Pig’s Inn is a modest 3-storey building which at the time of its conversion was being used as a makeshift pig pen—but don’t let that put you off! Artist Li Guoyu has transformed this particular pig pen into one of the most beautiful guesthouses in town, keeping its original white lime walls and black tiled roof (complete with traditional sky well), but filling the interior with an array of vintage furnishings, antique crockery and assorted Chinese memorabilia—everything from stone Buddhas and Lunar New Year couplets to scrolls of calligraphy. The result is a wonderfully homely guesthouse, with a distinctly rustic style and space for just twelve guests in its six cosy guest rooms.

NB. Pig’s Inn also has two sister properties in Bishan Village, a short drive from Xidi. Pig’s Inn Bishan is converted from an old merchant’s home and features lovely king-size suites and double villas, while Pig’s Inn 3, the latest in the family, is a much larger property converted from an old rapeseed oil factory. See our Ancient Villages of Anhui itinerary for pics taken by our staff and a more detailed overview.

Accommodation

Just six guest rooms, all of differing size and each uniquely furnished. The ground floor rooms open out onto the courtyard and reception hall, while the upper floor rooms enjoy a view over Xidi and its iconic black-tiled rooftops. All of the rooms are air-conditioned, some en-suite.

Dining

There are very few restaurants in Xidi, and most open only for lunch.

Pig’s Inn Xidi doesn’t offer a lunch or dinner menu, but your hosts will gladly prepare a selection of local fare with advance notice, and will always try to accommodate any requests. Expecting a light lunch, our staff found themselves presented with a full spread of local dishes and seasonal favourites on their brief visit to Pig’s Inn!

A Chinese breakfast (rice porridge, steamed buns, pickled eggs) is provided.

Child Policy

On request.
