Plantation Lodge is set on a working coffee and arable farm just outside Karatu and only a short drive from Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater. With only 24 rooms, this small, privately-owned lodge has the intimate character of a well-managed guest house.
Plantation Lodge is one of our favourite places to stay in the Ngorongoro Highlands, thanks to its beautiful gardens, immaculate presentation, and lovely guest rooms, each of which is unique in its interior design and decor.
Plantation Lodge's owners, Renate and Udo Marahrens, have been resident in the Karatu region for many years, and clearly put a great deal of effort into the day to day running of their lodge. They are closely involved with the local community, and employ all of their staff locally.
Accommodation
The rooms at Plantation Lodge are beautifully appointed and feature full-size beds – a welcome respite after a dusty safari! Each room is room is uniquely furnished and to a different theme.
Dining
Enjoy familiar dishes as well as more exotic local fare from the suaheli-kitchen. Most ingredients are taken fresh from the lodge gardens.
