Pole Pole Resort is a rustic, Italian-owned beach lodge with a wonderful location in Chole Bay, on the southern coast of Mafia Island. From its secluded location, surrounded by tropical gardens on this little-visited island, it enjoys stunning views of the Indian Ocean and the isles and islets of the Mafia Archipelago, as well as privileged beach access.
Pole Pole's small size (just seven rooms) give the discreet, secluded resort a wonderfully intimate character. This is an understated little retreat, with a calm, relaxing atmosphere. It doesn't offer the same levels of luxury as some of Tanzania's finest beaches resorts, but it does offer a much more exclusive location, far removed from the busy resorts and packed beaches of Zanzibar and the mainland coast.
Accommodation
Pole Pole offers just seven bungalow suites, set among coconut palms overlooking the bay. Inside, the rooms are furnished with a blend of Italian and local Swahili furnishings, including large Zanzibari beds, fine linens, and intricately carved wooden furniture. Our favourite element is the spacious verandahs, which are furnished with day beds and armchairs, and cooled by a ceiling fan and the ocean breeze, creating a wonderfully relaxing environment.

Dining
Delicious Italian cooking is served in Pole Pole's dining area. Traditional Swahili dinners are served once a week or on request. Much of the produce is organically grown and bought locally on the island.
