Rhino Watch Lodge | Aberdares, Kenya

Rhino Watch Lodge

Rhino Watch Lodge is situated in the Lower Aberdare foothills, from where it enjoys easy access to the Aberdare and Mount Kenya National Parks, as well as the Rift Valley Lakes and several of the Laikipia private reserves.

Rhino Watch Lodge is situated in the Lower Aberdare foothills, part of the central Kenyan Highlands. This places it in a unique position between several areas of interest, most notably the Aberdare and Mount Kenya National Parks, but also the Rift Valley Lakes and several of the Laikipia private reserves.

This isn’t, however, to say that Rhino Watch Lodge is merely a stop-off point en route to other destinations – it’s a fabulous luxury safari lodge in its own right, comparable to some of the best in the Mara, and a more than adequate setting for a relaxing 2-3 night stay, particularly for those wanting to explore the rarely-visited Aberdare National Park.

Unfortunately, Rhino Watch Lodge doesn’t always fit easily within itineraries, due to its somewhat remote and off-the-beaten track location, but where suitable it’s a lovely lodge which we’re always happy to recommend.

Accommodation

Rhino Watch offers accommodation in both tented suites and larger guest chalets.

The eight tents are furnished to luxury standards with either queen or twin single beds. Though the chalets offer more space, the tents are very generously proportioned, and feature private verandahs and en-suite bathrooms with stone bathtubs, separate shower and flush loo. Scattered around the flower gardens, each tent enjoys its own view and a good degree of privacy.

At 25sqm, the five chalets offer lots of space, and are furnished with large double beds with drapes. Glass doors open onto a private verandah with a view towards Mt Kenya.

In addition, there are two family chalets accommodating up to five guests in two bedrooms.

Dining

Meals are served in the dining area and bar at the heart of the camp, with a view onto the gardens. Dining is at separate tables, rather than the communal dining that is the norm at most safari camps.
