Rivertrees Country Inn is a lovely lodge situated between Mt Meru and Kilimanjaro, and a short distance from Arusha. It offers just twenty self-contained guestrooms, set in mature gardens on the banks of the Usa River.
As with most lodges in Arusha, Rivertrees is generally used as a one night transit stop before or after a safari/Kilimanjaro climb. But with its lovely atmosphere and setting, it works well for longer stays if your itinerary requires it.
Rivertrees has lots of character. At its heart is an old colonial-era farmhouse, which was until recently the home of Martina Gehrken Trappe! It still has the character of a private residence, with the homely décor, country kitchen and European-style ‘pub’ helping to create a very warm and accommodating atmosphere. The guest rooms are located in cottages dotted throughout the gardens.
Rivertrees Country Inn is close to Kilimanjaro airport, making it a convenient place to stay at the start or end of a safari and/or Kilimanjaro climb. It is among the most comfortable lodges in Arusha, though not the cheapest.
Accommodation
Rivertrees Country Inn offers eighteen private Garden Cottages, each with a slightly different layout. The rooms are spacious, fully en-suite (shower or bath) and very comfortable. In addition to the standard Garden Rooms, there are two River Cottages. These are well worth the price of the upgrade if you have a long stay at Rivertrees – they are hugely spacious, and feature cosy lounge areas (with fireplace), outdoor showers, and a patio overlooking the river.
A recent addition to Rivertrees Country Inn is the River House, a private villa complete with two double bedrooms, living room, kitchenette and bar. The River House comes with a private butler and chef, making it ideal for families or private groups.
Dining
Rivertrees Country Inn offers a gourmet country menu, utilising fresh produce from the lodge’s own gardens. Fresh baked bread and pizzas are prepared in a stone oven.
