Rodwell House is a 1930s mansion turned five-star hotel, which enjoys a marvellous location in the seaside town of St James, on the False Bay coast. This area is famous for its warm climate, relaxed atmosphere, and seasonal whale-watching, making Rodwell House the perfect place to retreat to if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of nearby Cape Town!
Hidden away within walled gardens, Rodwell House is a secluded retreat, despite being only a short walk from the centre of St James, with its many restaurants and shops. The main advantage of this location, however, is its proximity to the coast - Rodwell House's carefully manicured gardens lead all the way down to the beach.
Rodwell House has a decidedly old-fashioned air. This is of course in keeping with the age of the house, but some may find the atmosphere a little too stiff and self-consciously refined. The setting is undoubtedly beautiful, however, and there are wonderful aspects to the design of Rodwell House, such as a swimming pool fed by a mountain stream.
Accommodation
Rodwell House has just eight individually-decorated suites, all of which enjoy views of the ocean. The rooms are spacious and lavishly furnished. Amenities include double/king-size bed, air-conditioning, satellite TV and DVD, Wi-Fi, and en-suite bathroom with separate bath and shower and underfloor heating.
Dining
The freshest in-season produce is sourced and prepared for you at your request, accompanied by satisfying local or imported wines. Breakfast is enjoyed al fresco overlooking the garden and ocean, while picnic hampers can be provided for lunch. The hotel has a fantastic 15,000 bottle wine cellar.
Regular BBQ events are held on the terrace.
