Opened in April 2017, Sable Alley is a complete rebuild of a favourite old bush camp, Banoka. It enjoys an enviable position within the Khwai Concession, a 200,000 hectare private reserve adjoining Moremi (the public game reserve that forms the heart of the Okavango Delta). Centring on the vast floodplains of the Khwai River and the surrounding pockets of open woodland, this is a region that is rich in game. Rhino and wild dog are present, as are healthy populations of big cats and plains game.
Sable Alley is well positioned to make the most of this diversity of game and terrain. Occupying the site of an older camp, Banoka Bush Camp, it enjoys a good position overlooking a lagoon formed by the River Khwai, where elephant, buffalo and antelope can often be sighted in the dry season. The best game-viewing is to be had further afield, in the southern section of Khwai and in Moremi Game Reserve, but the option for full-day game drives, as well mokoro boat safaris, ensure these regions are accessible to guests at Sable Alley.
Sable Alley is a relaxed but upmarket camp, taking after its predecessor, Banoka Bush Camp. The camp features 12 elevated log-and-canvas tents, a swimming pool, open-air lounge and a viewing deck overlooking the lagoon. Game activities include day and night game drives on the Khwai Community Concession, full-day game drives to Moremi, and mokoro boat safaris (seasonal).
Accommodation
Sable Alley offers 12 permanent log-and-canvas tents, built on raised platforms overlooking the lagoon. The tents feature wooden flooring, large canopy beds, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers, ceiling fans, and solar power.
Sable Alley also offers guests the chance to sleep under the stars in the private star beds. Raised above a watering hole and lit by lantern, the three-story platforms come attached to private en-suite bathrooms.
