Satrana Lodge enjoys a convenient location close to the entrance of Isalo National Park. A comfortable, mid-sized lodge, it has been designed to blend in with the unique landscape that surrounds it, and sits some distance from the road on a hillside.
The lodge grounds are extensive and the accommodation carefully spaced out, maximizing guests’ privacy. The main lodge is at the top of the hill and houses the spacious reception area, bar, restaurant and swimming pool, all with fabulous views of the valley below.
The swimming pool is a welcome respite after a hot day in the park. There is also a small library, so grab a book and a drink and then relax in the natural surroundings.
The landscape in this region, although harsh, is quite beautiful, full of unique flora and fauna that has had to adapt to this inhospitable world. You may see wild periwinkles, a dwarf baobab which looks like an elephant’s foot, colourful deserts and miniature orchids.
Satrana Lodge is a lovely property with great facilities. The accommodation consists of comfortable and spacious Meru tents, which are quite unusual in Madagascar.
Accommodation
The rooms at Satrana Lodge have been very thoughtfully designed and offer a good standard of comfort. All 40 rooms are in Meru style tents set on raised platforms. The tents have a hardwood frame, wooden floors with carpets and canvas walls – those who have spent any time on safari in East Africa will instantly feel at home! Each tent has a private front deck, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Horombe plain from your sun lounge.
At the rear of the tent there is a large contemporary bathroom which leads to a private garden with an outdoor shower. The furnishings are simple and continue the classic safari/explorers theme.
Dining
The large bay windows of Satrana's restaurant and bar make the most of the impressive scenery. The menu consists of Malagasy and French cuisine.
