Tanda Tula is situated in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, close to the border with Kruger National Park. One of the Kruger's most luxurious tented safari camps, the unfenced Tanda Tula limits the number of guests to 24 (12 tents) to ensure a good level of privacy and personal attention, both in camp and on game activities.
The public areas include an outdoor boma for fine dining under the African night sky, a thatched lounge with an open-sided bar overlooking an active waterhole, a small swimming pool, and a curio shop.
Game activities take place largely in the reserve, but it's also possible to explore the park itself (the Timbavati Reserve is unfenced, meaning animals can roam freely between the two). Experienced guides will accompany you on game drives. For the more active, guided walking safaris are also offered, led by trained trackers.
Tanda Tula also operate a mobile camp in the Timbavati Reserve, the Tanda Tula Field Camp. This is a simple light mobile camp, very similar to those found in East Africa but something of a novelty in South Africa. It offers just four tents, centred on a communal mess. The Field Camp launched in 2014 and we've yet to visit it, but we understand that it’s serviced to the same high standard as Tanda Tula's main camp, though of course it lacks many of the facilities. Accommodation
The thatched East African safari style en-suite tents are equipped with a freestanding Victorian bath, outdoor shower, standing fans, double bed with mosquito netting, and furnishings designed for comfort. The expansive wooden deck at the front of each tent provides a lovely spot to relax and a platform for viewing the surrounding wilderness.
Dining
Meals can be taken either in the boma around a central fire, on your private deck or at the poolside at lunchtime.
