Opened in late 2015, Tarangire Simba Lodge is the latest addition to the Simba portfolio. It occupies a unique location in the north-western corner of Tarangire National Park, close to the newly opened Sangaiwe Gate, from where it overlooks Lake Burunge. This places it in a good position for those exploring the western reaches of Tarangire and for those wanting an escape from the busier northern territories of the park.
Tarangire Simba is a classic tented bush camp interwoven with contemporary amenities. Guests sleep under canvas and thatch in tented rooms, raised on wooden platforms so as to make the most of the views. The public areas include a reception, dining room and separate lounge/bar – all constructed out of canvas on raised decks. Wooden walkways connect the public areas to the rooms and to the outdoor pool deck.
Tarangire Simba Lodge makes no pretensions to being a luxury camp, but it offers exceptional value for the standard of service on offer, as well as a unique location away from the more crowded regions of Tarangire. As a result, it’s quickly become one of our favourite mid-range accommodations in Tarangire since opening in 2015.
Though there are plans to expand Tarangire Simba Lodge, at its current size of eight tents it feels decidedly intimate (though it’s clear the spacious lounge and substantial pool have been built to accommodate a larger number of guests than they do at present).
Accommodation
Tarangire Simba Lodge accommodates its guests in eight canvas suites (double and twin), situated under thatch on raised wooden platforms. The tents are exceptionally spacious inside and feature en-suite dressing rooms, indoor and outdoor showers, polished wooden floors, and glass-fronted doors that open onto private verandahs with a view of Lake Burunge. The interior furnishings are handcrafted from African hardwood and complemented with tasteful fabrics.
All tents have hot water and electricity (solar-powered).
