Tawi Lodge sits beneath Mt Kilimanjaro on the Kenya/Tanzania border. Part of a private 6,000 acre game reserve, it is within easy driving distance of Amboseli National Park, one of southern Kenya’s best game parks.
Tawi Lodge is a stylish boutique lodge, with just 12 cottages set on private bush land facing Kilimanjaro. It has a rustic, down-to-earth vibe which belies the luxury on offer. The rooms are large and beautifully furnished, each with its own fireplace and generous, four-poster bed. Facilities include an outdoors swimming pool and a small spa.
We’ve found Tawi Lodge to be one of the most pleasant places to stay in the Amboseli region. It enjoys a wonderfully private location on its own reserve, marvellous views of Kilimanjaro, and easy access to Amboseli via the park’s eastern gate. While Amboseli itself is overshadowed by the Masai Mara, it still has much to offers safari-goers looking to escape the crowds.
Accommodation
Tawi Lodge offers 12 cottages spaced well apart for privacy and all with views of Kilimanjaro from their private terraces. The cottages are spacious and beautifully furnished, with large four-poster wooden beds, leather armchairs, cosy fireplaces for the winter evenings and African-inspired furnishings.
Dining
Tawi Lodge’s bar and dining area enjoys views of Kilimanjaro and the wetlands directly in front of the camp where animals, especially elephant, often come to drink. Meals are usually served outside under the shade of magnificent tortilis trees, but there is also a space of indoor dining on those rare occasions of poor weather.
Dinner is normally preceded by drinks around the open-air campfire.
