Thazin Garden is a charming hotel situated close to a cluster of temples in New Bagan. This lovely property features teak structures and pretty gardens giving it the appearance of a rural Burmese home. The location—a short walk from a number of local restaurants and not far from the main temple sites—is convenient, and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly. Facilities include a swimming pool, spa and restaurant.
Accommodation
Thazin Garden Hotel offers 67 bungalow rooms, arranged in neat line formation and accessed via shady pathways that meander through the gardens. They are built with teak and paya-style red brick, similar to that used in the region's famous pagodas. Inside they are generously furnished with large double/twin beds, teak furniture, and locally-sourced crafts and lacquerware. We did find the bathrooms at Thazin to be a little cramped, but otherwise the rooms are very comfortable. Most of them open onto a verandah overlooking the gardens and, in the higher category rooms, a 13th-century pagoda located within the lodge grounds.
Thazin Garden Hotel offers two categories of room: superior and deluxe. They differ only in size and view. The amenities are much the same. All rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with TV, WiFi, tea/coffee facilities, and en-suite bathrooms with bath and shower.
Dining
Thazin Garden has a marvellous ‘Pagoda-side’ restaurant. Each evening, tables are set up on the lawn by the pool, at the foot of the 13th-century pagoda, which is lit at night. It’s a wonderfully romantic setting for a candlelit dinner.
The dinner menu at Thazin Garden is terrific. On our last visit, we had Keralan fish curry, followed by a selection of deserts. The breakfasts, on the other hand, are somewhat more limited—cooked eggs, fresh fruit table, cereals, etc.
