A Nairobi landmark, the Norfolk Hotel (or “Fairmont The Norfolk Hotel” as it styles itself) is one of Nairobi’s oldest hotels. It is located in its own private garden in the centre of the city, where it has stood since almost the beginning of modern Nairobi’s history, much of the present-day city having grown up around it. The Norfolk Hotel makes much of this history, and is filled with colonial-era paraphernalia and relics of the past. Lord Delamere Terrace, the Norfolk’s plush lounge bar, was very much the social centre of Nairobi during the first half of the 20th century, and remains a popular meeting place to this day.
Of course, the Norfolk Hotel isn’t just an historical relic. Beneath the colonial-era trappings is a immaculately-serviced modern city hotel. The Norfolk has all the facilities you would expect of a hotel of this class, including heated swimming pool, gym, sauna, spa, gift shops, bar and restaurant. Its location in the centre of the city is convenient, close to Nairobi’s more notable attractions.
Accommodation
The Norfolk contains 170 rooms divided between three wings. The rooms are generously proportioned and attractively furnished. The décor is perhaps a bit old-fashioned—heavy rugs and soft velour furnishings—but in keeping with the age of the hotel. Room amenities include telephone, satellite TV, air-con and safe.
