Sister lodge to Baraza and Breezes Beach Club, the Palms Zanzibar is one of the island’s original ultra-luxury beach retreats, and it remains one of the finest.
The Palms Zanzibar is a welcome alternative to the busy beach hotels and all-inclusive resorts that have come to dominate much of Zanzibar’s beautiful coastline. It offers just six private beach villas, situated on a small but pristine strip of land on the south-eastern coast of Zanzibar.
With only six rooms, the Palms is certainly exclusive, though it’s not quite as remote as some of Zanzibar’s private island lodges. Positioned between sister lodges Baraza and Breezes (it enjoys access to their facilities, but the reverse isn’t true), the Palms is a good option for those seeking privacy but not the remote isolation of a private island retreat. You can wander along to Breezes in the evenings if you’d prefer to dine in a livelier setting, and for those wanting to explore Zanzibar more widely, the Palms offers a good base from which to do so.
Recent years have seen new top-end lodges to rival the Palms arrive on Zanzibar and its surrounding islands, but the Palms still manages to stand out. Those looking for the utmost in exclusivity might consider instead a private island lodge such as Mnemba, but those wanting to combine the comforts of a remote retreat with the top-end amenities of a five-star resort will find the Palms to be just perfect.
Accommodation
Six spacious, beautifully presented villas, each with large bedrooms furnished with four-poster beds, separate lounge, en-suite bathroom, and private terrace with plunge pool and Zanzibari bed overlooking the sea.
Each villa also has a guest bedroom and bathroom en-suite.
Dining
The Palms offers a blend of local spices and freshly caught fish alongside more familiar international fare. You can dine privately on your private terrace, or in the open-air dining area.
